Mental Health First Aid Course 4 sessions 4 weeks. This Eltham MHFA Standard 12 hour course is run over 4 Monday morning sessions over 4 weeks in September 2016. 5/9, 12/9, 19/9, 26/9. 10-1 pm with complimentary meditation and mindfulness training optional post session each week.
The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the MHFA Guidelines.

What the Course Covers
Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Substance use problems
Mental health crisis situations covered are:
Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm)
Severe effects of drug or alcohol use
Severe psychotic states
All MHFA Courses teach how to give the mental health first aid using the MHFA Action Plan ALGEE.

Flexibility around start times are negotiable to suit participants. Mental Health First Aid manual is provided, along with Beyond Blue books and additional handouts to address group needs and further interests.
